Borden County was named for Gail Borden, a distinguished Texas patriot, surveyor and inventor of the process for condensed milk. It was created from Bexar County in 1876, but was not organized until 1891.

In 1881 the Texas and Pacific Railroad laid tracks from Fort Worth to Sierra Blanca. Section stations were built every ten miles along the route.

Ector County is one of 254 counties in Texas. It is part of the Odessa-Midland Metropolitan Area. Its population is approximately 125,110. Population estimates by race groups are: Anglo – 57.

Welcome to the Texas AgriLife Extension, Glasscock County website. The county seat, Garden City, the only town in the county, has a population of 250 and is conveniently located about half way between the larger metropolitan cities of San Angelo and Midland.

Home of the world’s largest oak forest! This huge oak forest is located in the scenic Sandhills State Park. The Sandhills alone comprise 4,000 acres of sand dunes, while the “forest” occupies 40,000 acres.

Crane County was created in 1887. After the discovery of oil the county was organized in 1927 with Crane the county seat and the only town in the county.

Upton county was established in 1910 at Upland, Texas. By the fall of 1911, the railroad was crossing the south survey. F.E. Rankin donated land for a town site, and a new town, Rankin, was born.

Pecos County was officially designated in 1875, with the town of St. Gall (now Fort Stockton) selected as the county seat. Located in the semi-arid Trans-Pecos region of West Texas, Pecos County is the second largest county in the state with 4,740 square miles and a 1996 population of 16,213, which ranked 130th in the State.

Fort Worth has promoted sound urban forestry practices since 1873, when the City charter declared it illegal to hitch a horse to a tree. The City hired its first arborist in the 1920s.
