Working Lands for Wildlife is a partnership between NRCS and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to use agency technical expertise and financial assistance to combat the decline of seven specific wildlife species whose decline can be reversed and will benefit other species with similar habitat needs.

The Sonoran Joint Venture (SJV) is a cooperatve, regional partnership that brings people together from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border to conserve the unique habitats of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico for the benefit of birds, other wildlife, and people.

Since 1992, the Arizona Partners program has focused on protecting, restoring, and/or enhancing wetland and streamside (riparian) habitats that will benefit federal trust species; federally listed threatened and endangered species, waterfowl, shorebirds, and migratory birds.

The Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative encompasses portions of five states: Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas, as well as a substantial portion of Northern Mexico.

Fish passage includes removal or replacement of barriers. When fish and other aquatic species can’t move or have access their habitat they could potentially be listed as a threatened or endangered species or, maybe even become extinct.

Ecological Services works with others to plan and implement on-the-ground conservation measures for species listed under the Endangered Species Act.

Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund (CESCF) grant programs provide funding to states and territories for species and habitat conservation actions on non-federal lands.

A Safe Harbor Agreement (SHA) is a voluntary agreement involving private or other non-Federal property owners whose actions contribute to the recovery of species listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

A Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) is a planning document designed to accommodate economic development to the extent possible by authorizing the limited and unintentional take of listed species when it occurs incidental to otherwise lawful activities.

The Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration (WSFR) Program administers grant programs that distribute millions of dollars annually to state agencies and Tribes to manage fish, wildlife, and habitats, evaluate and enhance species of greatest conservation need, and provide recreational opportunities for fishing, hunting, shooting, and boating.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, working with others, is responsible for conserving, protecting, and enhancing fish and wildlife and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people through Federal programs relating to migratory birds, endangered species, interjurisdictional fish and marine mammals, and inland sport fisheries.
