The Upper Loup NRD, part of the Loup River Basin, is comprised of 6,690 square miles and includes all of Grant, Hooker, Thomas, Blaine, and Logan counties and parts of McPherson, Brown, and Cherry Counties. The distance from east to west is 120 miles, and from north to south is 78 miles and most of the 4,275,000 acres lies within the Nebraska Sandhills. The district became operational July 1, 1972.
