San Pedro NRCD

Land ownership in the District is a mix of private, State, and federal lands. Land use is primarily for livestock grazing, wildlife habitat, and outdoor recreation. This area has seen a large increase in population and subdivisions due to growth of nearby urban areas and increase of winter visitors, which has diverted the focus of the District from the traditional emphasis on ranching and farming to concerns over water use and other issues related to the population increase.

The District facilitates securing technical assistance and financial assistance for landowners for fencing, water developments, brush control, and wildlife habitat improvement. It also has an active Environmental Education Center that provides information to the general public and youth organizations on the agricultural industry and the benefits of conservation of water and other resources.
