Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District

The Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) was started in 1946 as part of a response to the soil erosion crisis.  Bad farming practices coupled with drought led to the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s.  Throughout the late 1930’s and into the 1940’s, SWCD’s were organized to provide conservation assistance at the local level.

Today, the Putnam County SWCD works closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to provide technical and educational assistance to any Putnam County resident or landowner.  We also visit area schools to present programs as well as host workshops and field days to provide education about conservation issues that are important in our area.   Please contact our office to schedule a school visit or find out more information.
