The Ohio State University is a land grant institution. Because of that, OSU has a presence in each Ohio county through OSU Extension and its faculty and staff. OSU Extension programs include Family & Consumer Science, 4-H Youth Development, Community Development, and Agriculture and Natural Resources. OSU Extension is a non-formal education program using applied research to improve the quality of life for Ohio citizens. OSU Extension is guided by these seven principles:
~ Locally focused and relevant to Ohio Citizens
~ Holistic, integrated thinking on problems and issues
~ Proactive programming across program areas, disciplines, specializations, geographical boundaries, institutions, states
~ Structure based on entrepreneurial thinking and action
~ Interdisciplinary planning and implementation of programs
~ Flexibility in staffing and operations
