Mount Sopris Conservation District

The mission of the Mount Sopris Conservation District is to provide leadership, encourage wise resources decisions, set standards, encourage stewardship and educate cooperators, agencies, land users, and youth to conserve, improve and sustain our natural resources and the environment.

A conservation district is a political subdivision of the state of Colorado governed by a board of supervisors elected at large from within the boundaries.  The boundaries were originally formed by landowners petitioning in to the district. They do not always follow county or watershed boundary lines. Each district holds regular, open meetings to direct the district's business.  A conservation supervisor is responsible for local conservation programs, just as elected county officials are responsible for county services or school district boards are responsible for education.
