Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District

The Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a local subdivision of Indiana state government responsible for leadership in the conservation of Monroe County’s natural resources. The district is governed by a board of five supervisors who are county residents.

The district works closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), Purdue Cooperative Extension, the City of Bloomington, and other state and federal agencies. In partnership with the NRCS and IDNR, MCSWCD provides technical assistance to farmers, homeowners, businesses, and industry. The district also works with units of local, state, and federal government to address issues of land use, conservation planning, and resource development.

Mission:

To identify and prioritize local soil and water resource concerns, provide information on soil, water, and related natural resource conservation, and to connect land users to sources of education and technical and financial assistance to implement conservation practices and technologies.
