The Gila River NRCD is located along the Gila River in Central Arizona. This area is mainly Sonoran desert shrub and receives low rain- fall. There is some livestock grazing on the desert, especially when winter rain is abundant, but year round carrying capacity is low. The primary agricultural production in the District is on irrigated land which produces cotton, hay and other crops.

The District works with the Natural Resource Conservation Service and other agencies to provide technical assistance and financial assistance to farmers to improve water use efficiency and crop management strategies. These practices include land leveling, water distribution systems, efficient irrigation systems , crop rotations, and pest control.
