Franklin Conservation District

The Franklin Conservation District (FCD) is a legal sub-division of state government mandated by RCW 89.08 to develop and administer voluntary, non-regulatory programs for the wise use and conservation of natural resources in Franklin County. The FCD is governed by a board of elected and appointed supervisors who establish priorities and set policy. Conservation Districts are Washington's only locally driven, conservation delivery system that identifies natural resource problems, and guides voluntary solutions.

The long range strategy of the FCD is to provide leadership conducive to the wise use and conservation of renewable resources, and to sustain agriculture in Franklin County by directly supporting cooperative, voluntary, and economically feasible solutions to environmental problems. The FCD is also dedicated to educating youth in Franklin County through hands-on science inquiry about water and soil quality and conservation issues in our area. The FCD's position is to acknowledge and provide facts about concerns and problems, and to develop and implement solutions. Specific activities and programs to accomplish this long range strategy are in the FCD's Annual Plan of Work.

The Franklin Conservation District also works with the private landowners to install wildlife habitat plots. Wildlife habitat plots offer wildlife excellent nesting habitat, cover and protection from predators, as well as a food source. FCD assists with the development of wildlife habitat planting plans, coordination of habitat installation and financial assistance dependent on available grant funding sources.
