Ely District Office

The Ely District encompasses 12 million acres in eastern Nevada including White Pine county, Lincoln county and a small portion of Nye county. Much of the district is representative of the Great Basin with large expanses of rolling sagebrush and grasses. Pinyon and juniper forests gradually give way to Aspen and Fir stands at the higher elevations. Pronghorn antelope, mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, wild horses, domestic cattle and sheep are a few of the larger animals you might see in this area. The southern region includes species uniquely adapted to the Mojave desert, including desert tortoise, kit fox, roadrunners or desert bighorn sheep. Some of the desert plants are yucca, cholla cacti and Joshua trees.
