Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District

The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District is a legally organized subdivision of the State of Ohio. The District was chartered on March 24, 1945. It was the 37th district to be chartered after Ohio's General Assembly passed House Bill 646 on May 16, 1941. The district, as a unit of state government, operates under the authority of Chapter 1515 of the Ohio Revised Code.

A five-member Board of Supervisors sets the policies of the district. The residents and landowners of the district elect supervisors to staggered 3-year terms. It is the duty of the board to implement the policies that guide the work of the district, administer the district’s state and local funds, and hire employees to carry out the work of the district.

Board meetings are normally held the first Tuesday of the month. Refer to the Calendar of Events for dates and times of meetings. Contact the Crawford SWCD office for an agenda.

Our mission is to encourage and assist the people of Crawford County in making decisions for the wise use of our natural resources to provide a quality environment for all.

The Board of Supervisors’ vision for the district is to be a lead agency in the promotion of innovative methods in the optimum use of our natural resources, on a watershed basis, to the citizens of Crawford County.

We work in partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency to put conservation practices on the land. We work in cooperation with county and state agencies to assist Crawford County residents with natural resource concerns.

We thank the Crawford County Commissioners and state representatives for supporting our mission. Funding for Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District comes from the Crawford County Commissioners grant, which is matched at approximately 75-80% by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Soil and Water Conservation.
