Steeped in rich history, Calhoun County was inhabited by Native Americans, visited by French and Spanish Explorers, and a portal for Anglo immigrants that would help to tame and colonize Texas.
Port Lavaca, the county seat is located approximately 150 miles to the southwest of Houston and 85 miles northeast of Corpus Christi. Other local communities include: Seadrift, Port O’Connor, Point Comfort, Indianolia, Port Alto/Olivia area and Alamo and Magnolia Beach.
These communities are supported by Petro-chemical, deep-water port, offshore oil and gas production , tourism, agriculture, and recreational and commercial fishing.
Our Mission: To provide quality, relevant, outreach education programs and services to the people of Texas.
What we do: Extension brings the resources from the Texas A&M University System to the people of Texas. Through locally based faculty, Extension provides unbiased, research-based information, educational programs, and technical assistance in the following core service areas:

- Environmental Stewardship
- Community and Economic Development
