Ackerman Native Plant Nursery

The Catalina Island Conservancy established the native plant nursery and seed conservation facility at Middle Ranch to provide plant and seed material for its revegetation needs on Santa Catalina Island.  The nursery grows over 85 species as container stock and houses over 2,000 seed collections (accessions) representing 243 species.  Plant projects are varied and include rare plant conservation, habitat restoration, erosion control, and native landscaping.

Mr. James H. Ackerman was a major supporter of the Nursery as a Conservancy Benefactor and also served on the Conservancy's Board of Directors.  The Ackerman family continues to support the Nursery.

The James H. Ackerman Native Plant Nursery is located at Middle Ranch and is open Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
