The Illinois-Iowa Field Office is the home of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ecological Services Division, for the states of Illinois and Iowa.

The Ecological Services programs of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service include the Endangered Species, Conservation Planning, Environmental Quality and Great Lakes Coastal Programs.

Established in 1981, the Carterville Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office (FWCO) is located in southern Illinois and serves the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, and Kentucky

The office was originally established around 1971 to provide coordination for the Upper Mississippi River Conservation Committee and review of federal projects in Illinois along with projects on the Upper Mississippi River adjacent to Illinois

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, working with others, is responsible for conserving, protecting, and enhancing fish and wildlife and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people through Federal programs relating to migratory birds, endangered species, interjurisdictional fish and marine mammals, and inland sport fisheries.
