Long-Range Plan For The Management of Lesser Prairie Chickens in New Mexico 2002-2006

The Lesser Prairie-Chicken Management Plan will be the foundational document to direct conservation efforts in New Mexico. The goal of the plan, developed by the Division of Wildlife, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, is to satisfy the public’s lesser prairie-chicken related recreational and ecological interests and resolve related socioeconomic issues. A three-fold approach will be integral in achieving this: obtain a better understanding of LPC abundance, distribution and population trends; continue to seek public involvement in and support of LPC management efforts; work with private landowners and land management agencies to provide habitat necessary to ensure long-term conservation of LPC habitat.
